But even given the confines of this North Side theater, you never feel like you are watching some kind of simplified or cut-down experience, which would be fatal with a play that needs to be huge and messy and sometimes problematic, for that is the nature of the problem it is identifying and the lives it is recounting. Steep’s designers, especially Alison Siple’s costumes and Arnel Sancianco’s cleverly fused setting, go far beyond the storefront baseline.
